Ahupua’a Aquaponics
Check out our new Aquaponics system! We operate a raised gravel-bed system using cinders. Our grant allows us to use the system to propagate native Hawaiian wetland plant species to see how they will grow in an Aquaponics system. Our bed is approximately four by 32 feet and we use a 1000 gallon fish tank filled with Chinese catfish. Although we don’t have electricity yet, we keep the fish and plants happy by circulating the water with a small gas powered pump until our solar is installed.
Come check out our system! The Community Workdays provide an excellent opportunity every second Saturday of the month to come learn about aquaponics!
Can you name any of the species we have growing in our system from this picture?
